Due to the current warming conditions and significant snow melt the Center Chains Disc Golf Course may be closing for mud season prior to the traditional date of March 15th. The course will be inspected over the weekend and the decision made then. The course closes for mud season to allow the soil to dry out and spring vegetation to establish. Heavy foot traffic over the soft muddy soils damages the paths, tee pads, and areas around the baskets by increasing erosion and over compacting the soils. Over compaction of the soils prevents a thick growth the grass which prevents erosion over the summer. A decision on the timing of course closure will be posted early next week. The course will reopen May 1st or earlier depending on drying conditions.

After inspecting the course and conversations with the Town of Waterbury the Center Chains Disc Golf course is now closed for Mud Season. The snow has mostly melted and the paths, tee pads, and areas and the baskets are muddy, please stay off the course until it reopens on or about May 1st. A specific date will be posted as we get closer. Thank you.
May 1st seems so far away with all this fabulous weather. Would love to come play the course this coming weekend if conditions have improved
the course still needs to dry out for 2 more weeks.

I spoke with the Waterbury Rec director this afternoon. Center Chains Disc Golf Course (and all rec facilities in Waterbury) is still very wet and is going to remain closed until Friday May 5th. Thank you for your patience and staying off the course until it opens for the season. Quarries and Wrightsville are open for play.
I ran into some folks the other day at quarries that had just played Waterbury. They either weren't aware of it being closed or just didn't care. Is there good signage out there letting people know it's closed?
According to the Rec Director there is a chain across the bridge and there have been multiple signs. The signs keep being removed by players. Those players probably believe that the course closure does apply to them.
I know this says closed until May 5th and it's currently May 18th. But I heard there were still signs up saying Center Chains is still closed. So closed or open?
Totally open, signs are not up
