Hey all unusual golf format lovers. It’s time for the annual NCDGA Shootout tournament, coming up July 6.

Here’s how it works. Two rounds. First round is straight golf (well, except with a twist, which I will explain anon.). Second round is shootout format. The first round qualifies you for the second round and also seeds the field, the significance of which will become clear in a moment. The shootout round has 19 golfers start out on hole #1. One player with the worst score is eliminated on each hole. Players tied for worst on a given hole play a shootout, whereby they play a CTP to determine who is to be eliminated. The player among the shootout group with the best score from the first round gets to choose the location from which to throw the CTP, hence the value of a better seed from the first round.

SPECIAL NEW EXCITING RULES FOR 2019: both rounds will be played in the Al Rosa Twisted Tees© style. If you bogey a hole, you move to the next shorter tee on the next hole. If you birdie, you move to the next longer tee. Par, play the same tee. Move only one tee position even if you eagle or conversely blowed up real good. Twisted Tees format acts as the handicapping so all skill levels of golfers can compete together.

Juicy deets:
$10 entry fee. No pre-reg. 7/6 day of only.
8am sign up opens.
Players’ meeting 8:45.
First round at 9, shotgun start if we have a big field.
Break for short lunch (on your own), then second round.
Normal rules of courtesy suspended for 2nd round—heckling and trash talk encouraged.
Glory. Payout to top third of 2nd round players.
